Former Bendigo Pioneers forward Eden Zanker was nominated for the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star award following a standout performance for Melbourne in Round 3.

The 183cm 19-year-old recorded an equal-career-high 11 disposals and kicked a goal in her sixth AFLW match to be among the Demons’ best players in their 39-point victory over Brisbane at Hickey Park in Queensland on Sunday.

Zanker was selected by Melbourne with pick no.6 at the 2017 AFLW Draft following four games for the Pioneers that saw her earn a TAC Cup Girls Team of the Year guernsey and then four appearances for Vic Country at that year’s AFLW U18 Championships, after which she was named in the U18 All Australian team.

The Woorinen (Bendigo Junior FL) product played three AFLW matches in 2018 before developing rapidly across 14 Swisse Wellness VFL Women’s games for the Casey Demons later last season.

She joins fellow former TAC Cup Girls players Nina Morrison (Geelong Falcons to Geelong AFLW) and Madison Prespakis (Calder Cannons to Carlton AFLW) as AFLW Rising Star nominees for 2019.
