Decorated former Calder Cannons midfielder Madison Prespakis was nominated for the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star award following a stellar performance in defeat for Carlton in Round 2.
The 18-year-old competitive ball-magnet recorded 20 disposals and kicked a goal in her second AFLW match to be arguably the Blues’ best player in their 13-point loss to Adelaide at IKON Park on Sunday.

Prespakis was selected by Carlton with pick no.3 at last year’s AFLW Draft after capping her junior career with the TAC Cup Girls Best & Fairest and AFLW U18 Championships MVP awards alongside ex-Geelong Falcons player – and Round 1 AFLW Rising Star nominee for Geelong – Nina Morrison.
The Romsey (Riddell District FL) product also won Calder’s 2018 best-and-fairest award when captain of the Cannons, played in the club’s 2017 TAC Cup Girls premiership victory, earned TAC Cup Girls Team of the Year selection in 2017-18 and represented Vic Metro on the national stage four times.
Later in 2018, Prespakis graduated to play six Swisse Wellness VFL Women’s games for Melbourne Uni, when she again demonstrated the ball-winning ability that AFLW watchers have already seen from her in 2019.
